Second Day Just as Good as First at the Sports Center
By Jeremy Schilling
So on this second day of dedication weekend, I got down to the Recreation Center for refreshments at about 9:55am – and found no refreshments. Would that be an omen for today’s hockey game? You could only hope that it wouldn’t be.
My two friends and I got to the TD Banknorth Center at around 10:25 and proceeded to wait for about 45 minutes for entry into the arena. However long the wait might have seemed, it was good because due to the fact that we were the first people in, we were available to get first row seats, right up against the glass. I knew from that moment it would be a cool day.
After waiting around for more than an hour, the game started. But first, another anthem had to be sung, today’s by a man who sings for the Rangers regularly, John Amirante. Then former Detroit Red Wings great and NHL legend Gordie Howe participated in the ceremonial face-off. And then the game started. After a scoreless first period, the Bobcats exploded in the second for four goals, and then added three more in the third for a 7-0 victory. For the Bobcats, it was the second straight day the TD Banknorth Center roared to life with a big win. The #20 team in the nation helped its record to 12-8-4 with another quality win. What a weekend!
But the highlight of the day was that, in the second day of live game action, the boards got damaged. That’s right, in the third period they needed repair, after happy fans caused a piece of glass that holds two boards together to come undone. What a way to end an at times wild and amazing weekend.
