WQAQ makes history with broadcasts today

March 20, 2009 · 1 Comment

By Mike Radomski

(HAMDEN, Conn.) – With a simple click of the mouse, and a few simple words, Quinnipiac’s own WQAQ Sports department will be making history with the first simultanous broadcast of two sports at the same time.

In previous years, WQAQ was building up a reputation for reliability and excellence with just a few broadcasts per season, but the bar has been lifted higher this year from the sports directors.

The WQAQ sports department has raised the bar in recent years to upwards of 100 broadcasts, and now well beyond that with the evolution of dual broadcasting.

With the help of Paul Krom, Jack McDonald and the Quinnipiac sports info staff, WQAQ is now capable of broadcasting multiple sports games from many different fields at the same time.

WQAQ is glad to bring you even closer to the Quinnipiac Bobcats athletes and teams and will continue to do so in the future.

WQAQ is also now capable of broadcasting all baseball and softball games on the road and at home as well. It is an exciting time to be apart of WQAQ and again would like to thank everyone possible. Without you, this dream of ours and athletics, would just be…a dream.

Happy New Year from WQAQ Sports

January 1, 2009 · 1 Comment

The end of one year marks the beginning of a new one and the WQAQ Sports staff would like to wish you and your family a Happy New Year!

It truly was a remarkable year for WQAQ and our sports members. Former sports directors Seth Rothman and Steve Tisi started the year by bringing more games to the sports stream and even more content to the WQAQ Sports Blog.

Mike Silverman and I became the new sports directors in the fall and really wanted to bring you, the viewer and listener, even closer to Quinnipiac athletics. Mike and I brought more games to the schedule with a slate of 70 events covered in the one semester alone. The sports department also redesigned the blog with Andrew Fletcher leading the charge. It was an amazing semester with the dedicated staff and it looks to be getting even stronger.

Jamie Palatini is stepping in as the new co-sports director with me and together we plan to bring even more to the table. You can expect updated commercials, more games on the broadcast schedule, and even more articles and feature stories on the sports site. The sports staff can not wait to get back to work in the spring semester to keep bringing you closer to your favorite athletes, coaches and teams at Quinnipiac University.

Once again, thanks for reading and visiting the page and we wish you the best in 2009!

Sincerely,

Mike Radomski and Jamie Palatini
WQAQ Sports Directors

Jason Slater, a junior broadcast journalism major at Quinnipiac University, is in his fifth semester broadcasting sporting events for the Sports Department at WQAQ. Jason has covered a variety of sports, from basketball, to volleyball, and even field hockey, and his duties as a broadcaster include both play-by-play and color commentating. He shares his wealth of sports knowledge with the audience during every broadcast, and tries to inform listeners of the small details of the game. In addition to broadcasting games for WQAQ Sports, he has also covered the women’s volleyball team, becoming the beat writer and writing articles after attending every home game.

Jason is involved in other aspects of WQAQ as well. He has his own radio show with co-host Jason Giamboi, called “Jay and Jay in the Afternoon.” Jason has previously given sports updates on WQAQ.

Aside from the radio station, Jason is also looking to expand his horizons and stretch into the realm of television. He has been a part of Q30, Quinnipiac’s television station, for over two semesters. He is a part of the student run news show “The Morning After,” which airs live every Tuesday at 10 a.m. Jason has a sports segment on “TMA,” where he gives a recap of the local and national week in sports. He has been praised for his ability to think off the top of his head while being shot live on camera, opting not to use the teleprompter or notes of any kind.

A 2007 graduate of Colonia High School in Colonia, N.J., Jason gained his sports knowledge from personal experience on the field. He was a varsity letter winner in both Baseball and Football, receiving other various sporting accolades as well. After college, Jason would like to pursue a career in sports, with his dream job as somehow landing on ESPN.
