Graciano Brito named WQAQ Athlete of the Week

By: Steve Ceruti

(HAMDEN, Conn.)-Graciano Brito is this week’s WQAQ Athlete of the Week after scoring three goals in two Bobcat victories. In Brito’s first game against Columbia in New York last Friday, the Bobcats fell down 1-0 early after a goal in the ninth minute. The Quinnipiac senior co-captain would not let that be the deciding goal.  In the 64th minute Brito scored the equalizer off a cross from teammate Durval Pereira. Brito took the pass and beat Columbia goalkeeper Alex Aurrichio to the left side to tie the game at one a piece.

His scoring would not stop in New York. In the Bobcat’s next game they once again fell down 1-0 to a good Holy Cross team but Brito would come through for Quinnipiac once again. After barely missing a head in goal off the cross bar in the first half, Brito kept fighting. Finally in the 76th minute the Quinnipiac forward got past the Crusader defenders and scored off a beautiful pass from Dwayne Mars which would once again knot the game at one. Shortly after the equalizer, in the 81st minute, Brito took a pass from Johan Karlhagen running past one defender then putting an athletic spin move on the second defender leaving him with only the goalkeeper to beat. He put the shot in the back of the net giving the Bobcat’s the 2-1 lead and ultimately the victory in a hard fought game.

Brito is the lead scorer with seven goals on a Quinnipiac team with a 5-1-2 record. The Bobcat’s next game will be at Loyola in Baltimore Saturday, October 4th where Graciano Brito looks improve on his already impressive season.
