NC State completes sweep of Bobcats 17-7

(RALEIGH, NC) – The NC State Wolfpack (10-1) finished a weekend sweep of the Quinnipiac Bobcats (0-3) baseball team on Sunday, winning 17-7 at Doak Field.

Cousins Dallas Poulk (Fayetteville, NC) and Drew Poulk (Morehead City, NC) led the effort for the Wolfpack with a combined six hits and seven runs batted in for NC State’s fourth win in a row.

The Bobcats were led by senior Brian Monack (Branford, CT) who started the game on the mound and finished as the designated hitter. Monack went 2 for 4 at the plate including a run, but only lasted four innings on the mound. The left-hander surrendered 8 runs(all earned) on eight hits in his first ever career pitching start.

Quinnipiac trailed 7-0 after three innings but a quick turnaround at the plate rallied the Bobcats right back into the thick of things. In the fourth inning, shortstop Mickey Amanti (Waterford, CT)singled home a run on an RBI single. Amanti would go 3 for 5 in the game. Later on in the inning, outfielder Ben Farina (Waterford, CT) scored two more on a base-hit, and then scored himself on a wild pitch. When all was said and done, the Bobcats found themselves down 7-4.

The Wolfpack would then score the next ten runs of the game against the Quinnipiac pitching staff to go ahead 17-4. The Bobcats would add three runs in the top of the ninth inning before reliever Anthony Tzamtzis (Miami, FL)struck out Ray Buckley (Fairfield, CT) to end the game and comlete the sweep.

Quinnipiac is back in action tomorrow whenthe Bobcats travel to play the Duke Blue Devils at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, NC. Game time is set for three o’clock.
