WQAQ  Athlete of the Week: Justin Rutty

This week’s athlete of the week honors belong to none other than Justin Rutty.

The junior from Newburgh, N.Y. continued to lead the Bobcats men’s basketball team this past week as they wrapped up their historical season by advancing to the NEC Championship game  and playing in their first ever NIT game against Virginia Tech.

In the NEC tournament, Rutty averaged 16.0 points and 13 rebounds per game, including a monster game in the semi-finals against Long Island University.  He scored 22 points to go along with 16 rebounds and 3 blocks in an 83-78 win over the Blackbirds.

The junior forward continued is outstanding play, tallying 22 points and 7 rebounds on 10-13 shooting against Virginia Tech in Quinnipiac’s first every NIT game; a game the Bobcats lost 81-61.

Thanks to his great overall season, Rutty has earned All-NABC District 18 First Team, All-ECAC Division I Third Team, and All-Northeast Conference First Team honors to go along with being awarded the Northeast Conference Player of the Year award.

Rutty finished his outstanding junior season with averaging 15.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per game for the year.
